Free: Pat lally’s first procession should be a good one with a 40ft dragon, the Fire and ice characters from Swamp Circus and a host of floats and assorted dressed-up nutters to entertain. The main place to be is George Square, where there will be something going on from 10.4San-2.45pm. Although Strathclyde University will be contributing much of the entertainment to mark their bicentenary, other performers include Elvis Priesley with the Gardenaires.

I EYEMOIITII SEAFOOD FESTIVAL Sat 15. 10.30am—8pm/Sun 16. 10.30am—5pm. The Harbourside. Eyemouth. £1 (kids free). 0l890 750672. Two days of non- stop seafood. music. drama and dance in the car-free zone of the harbour. Local merchants will be displaying their filleting skills. you can look round ancient and modern fishing vessels and the dance tent and there will be an attempt to cook Scotland‘s biggest paella. Sounds delicious. lf that isn’t enough incentive to head dovVn the Al. then combine your trip with a visit to St Abbs or the Lammennuir Horseshow just up the road at Ayton Castle (Sun 16. from 9am. £2 per car).

I CANAL JUMP Sun 16. l.30—5pm. Edinburgh Canal Centre. The Bridge Inn. 27 Baird Road, Ratho. Spectators free. 0131 333 1320. Premium Days Out fare. as l00 competitors strive to leap the canal with the aid of a long pole. There is a full day of family-orientated entertainment but the real fun starts at 3pm when the first mad fool makes a Splash.
I COPAR FESTIVAL Sat 22. 2-lO.30pm/Sun 23. 2-8.30pm. The Haugh Park. Cupar. Fife. £3 (£5 both days including camping). Orbital aren’t playing
the main stage at sunset and John Peel won’t be doing his Radio 1 show live from the toilets. but hey! there’s no Glastonbury this year so you could do worse than Cupar for your midsummer break. Headlining on Saturday night are Frank McZappa (guess who they‘re a tribute band to) with the likes of Skeezer (fun loving punksters). Cherrybomb and Bonafide in the afternoon. Sunday sees the Howff Jazz Band. Maggie Holland and Rockets Revenge with the Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra headlining. There's a creche and entertainment for the kids. and a cheap bar to assuage your thirst.
I GADDGEDLAR RE-ENACTMENT Sun 16. 2.30pm. St Andrew’s Castle. Fife. £2 (£1.25). Watch the members of Gaddgedlar beat the living daylights out of each other as they re-enact a few scenes from the Scottish Wars of independence. I INCNCOLM ISLAND RE-ENACTMENT Sun 16. 11am—4pm. Ferry departs from South Queensferry. £6.75 (£5.50/£3.50). 0131 331 4875 (ferry booking office). Get on the Maid Of The Forth and go to lnchcolm for the day to see a few more of those Historic Scotland re-enactors strut their stuff. Today's offerings include ‘A Matter Of Faith' (11.45am). on account of the religious debates between Mary Queen of Scots and John Knox. ‘Riot' (1.30pm). a comedy depicting guardsrnen hunting Jacobite refugees, and ‘To Wear The White Cockade’ (3.15pm).

Scottish CM) and the Faslane Peace Camp have organised this day of fun events to demonstrate against Trident. From IOam on Saturday the focus is on Helensburgh sea front. but the main event starts at 12.30pm at the Peace Camp with a march to the North gate where various activities will take place from 1.30pm. There are cruises up the Gare Loch during the afternoon to look at the nuclear submarine base and food will be available from the Peace Camp in the evening when there will be a ceilidh to celebrate the camp‘s fourteenth birthday.
The emphasis of the event is on art. music and participation. so take banners. instruments and things to hang on the fence. Details of Sunday's events will be given on Saturda '.
I HISTORIC VEHICLE RALLY Sun 23. 10am—5pm. Sumtnerlee Heritage Trust. West Canal Street. Coatbridge. ()l236 43126]. Free. Sumtnerlee make a feature of their IOU-strong collection of old vehicles on Sun 23. with a range of added attractions including kids entertainments. The 2()-acre museum. illustrating 200 years of Scottish industry and people. is open daily. Features include Scotland‘s only working tramway. displays of working historic machinery. re-created miners' cottages and an underground coahnine. Refreshments are available in the Ironworks Kitchen.
I LEVITATE TRE KINGSTON BRIDGE Fri 2 l. evening. Clydeside walkway (north and south). Free. Midsummer madness from the Lost Tribe of the M8 as they solve Glasgow's transport problems by raising the Kingston Bridge twenty feet and turning it into flowers. Lupins would be a good choice although ragwort is probably tnore appropriate. But whatever the flower. if you have the power. get down to the bridge on the shortest night of the year. Colourful clothes and a bucket load of peace are do rigr'ur.

Take your own kite for flying competitions for all ages and watch the corporate kite bulldlng cornpetitlon and demonstrations of kites from Malaysia and Ghlna. But even if the wind doesn’t blow, a pipe band will, and there will be go-karts, stalls, side-shows, a disco and parachute lumps for Teddy Bears.
