I THE CRAFT MOVEMENT AT EDINBURGH Fri 8-Sun 10, 10am-6pm (5pm, Sun). The Assembly Rooms, George Street, Edinburgh. £2 (accompanied children free). No tat, is what the organisers claim for this nifty craft fair where the accent is on quality not quantity. All the usual skills are present and correct, with ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery, knitwear, metal, papier mache, textiles and wood. It the price tags are high, at least you know that you are getting a unique work of skilled craftspersonship. And if you can’t afford a few thousand for a new dining room chair set, then there’s always the mugs.

During the War Gordon was an RAF pilot, who afterwards became a metallurgist consultant for a German Steel (ombine. One of his colleagues was an ex-luftwaffe pilot and they became firm friends, resulting in him being Godfather to his two sons.
After a very severe illness, Gordon was able to spend two weeks convalescing at the RAF Association's Nursing Home "Sussexdown' in Storrington.

2 road racers will be very much in evidence, the highlight of this annual convention is f the moped marathon, run in aid of the charity SPARKS. Teams come from all over the ; country to compete for the honour of raising the Convention Con-Rod Trophy and
! popping a bottle of lrn Bru. This day out is a must for all lovers of motorised two- wheel vehicles, with displays of vintage, classic and modern machines, club and trade stands, special demonstrations of classic racing bikes, arena trials, a custom show and fun fair. Alford’s tarmac circuit with landscaped safety areas provides an excellent venue to display competition motorcycles, which this year include several examples of the classic AJS 7R ‘Boy Racer’, a Rickman Mettisse Triumph and 3 Rob North-framed Formula 750 Trident ‘Slippery Jock’.
