As part of a bid to promote Dunfermline as a tourist attraction for Scots. the hoteliers are hosting a Scottish Food Fayre Thurs 13—Sun 16. On Sat 15 a new Heritage Centre. the Abbot House. opens to the public with a medieval streetmarket taking place 10am~4.30pm in St Catheryu‘s Wynd. From 2—4pm there will also be period stand-up comedy and traditional story-telling in Dunfermline Abbey.

funfair stretches for half a mile along the esplanade. A market has been held in Kirkcaldy since 1304 when Edward I granted the burgh the right to hold a market at the ()ctaves in Easter. The market moved to its present site in 1903 when trampays were established in Links Street.

I RED CROSS DOLL’S HOUSE TOUR Until Tue 18, Tue-Sat 10.30am-5pm; Sun 2—5pm,
closed Monday. Smith Art Gallery and Museum, Dumbarton Road, Stirling. 01786 471917. Free. This doll’s house was built during 1940 in Dunblane to tour and raise money for the Red Cross. Its marvellous detail gives a unique insight into the file or its makers, together with their private aspirations in terms or home ownership and material possessions. There are also artelacts associated with the house’s original tour 011940—44. The Smith also includes an exhibition of local history and work around Stirling 1790—1990 and the all important tearoom with home baking - which
is reputed to be delicious.
