influence has led to this crossing of the nominal boundaries. Percussionist Jim Sutherland returns from a world tour with 1 Led Zeppelin (honest) to lead his ’ experimental jazz-folk-rock-ethnic big i band Somotherland. Earlier outings I suggested they had not yet succeeded in i working out the best way to utilise the diverse talents in the band. but there was enough emerging to suggest it may be a worthwhile endeavour. succeeded in forging one of the most seamless blends ofjazz and folk music yet devised. The eight-piece band feature a dazzling array of instruments drawn from both traditions (and a few more besides). and take a highly inventive and unfailingly exciting approach to original compositions from the half-dozen writers in the band. This is a new trio which grew out of pianist Paul Flush‘s; Newcastle-based Full Circle quartet. and ' features a co-founder of that band. bass player Keith Peberdy. and drummer Paul Brown. Flush now lives in Edinburgh. and l've been impressed with his playing on several occasions (most recently with American baritone saxophonist Nick Brignola in Aberdeen). and this should be well worth checking out.
