Simon van der Walt. who is well known in Edinburgh as both trumpeter and arranger in That Swing Thang.

The final dates in the guitarist's short Scottish tour take him to the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy on Fri 25. and then on to this venue. This may be an appropriate place to note with sadness the demise of the Glasgow Society of Musicians. a mainstay of these listings. and a fixture in the city since the late 19th
century. Financial pressures. at dwindling
membership. and failure to encourage adequate public support finally forced the
closure of their premises just along the
road from the Mitchell earlier this month.
That leaves several local musicians
looking for a gig. and the city with no regular stage for the kind of visiting mainstream jazz artists — Scott Hamilton.
