The racial prejudice which prevented llina Simone from becoming a concert pianist sent her into an often stormy life as a popular singer, drawing on blues and jazz. ller standing has vacillated dramatically in a roller-coaster career, but the revival of her 50s hit “My Baby Just Cares For Me’ in 1987 pitched her back into the international arena as a major, if notoriously unreliable, draw. let‘s all hope she is on a good night.
