European Treasures: rite Shared Inheritance Until 30 Apr. A sumptuous display of old books. manuscripts and maps from the library‘s collection. illustrating the ancient links between European countries. The exhibition includes the only known copy of the first book to be printed in Scotland — by a Scot who learned his trade in France; Mary Queen of Scots' last letter. written to her brother-in-law. the King of France. and the 1456 Gutenberg Bible.

A dedicated photographer. lmpey took advantage of his diplomatic posting in lndia to record the people. monuments and landscapes of the country in the 1850s. Far from presenting a romantic view of the country. lmpey‘s images were meant to enhance the British understanding of this comer of their empire.
