I Dlue'n’eoogle Cavendish, West Tollcross, 228 3252. 10pm—4am. £10 advance, £12 on door. A huge event taking up all three floors of The Cavendish and featuring The James Taylor Quartet , the Scottish debut of Nu Colours and (Gil Scott-Heron guitarist) Robbie Gordon‘s band. DJ 5 include the ubiquitous Norman Jay and Femi and Marco from The Young Disciples. See Clubs preview.
I Sheep On Drugs, Headcleanerand Cubanate Music Box, Victoria Street, 225 2564. 8pm. Despite seeming like tedious techno-waffle when they toured as part of Daisy Chainsaw‘s travelling circus, Sheep On Drugs have amassed a sizeable audience of their own. The more noisy and industrial Headcleaner will apparently be trying to draw attention away from their own musical shortcomings by bringing along a performance artist who abuses his body with axe-grinders and Chainsaws.
I Odd Dodhran La Belle Angele, Hastie‘s Close (behind the Pelican), Cowgate, 225 2774. 9.30pm. Free. The progenitors of ‘tribal trance‘ music play a low-key acoustic set, inviting punters to bring along their own drums to join in.
I Texas Broom Bertie‘s, Merchant Street, 225 2002. 11pm. Free. Blues.
I The Lowdown Johns Negociants, Lothian Street, 225 6313. 10pm. Free.

WEDNESDAY 25 Glasgow
I Ieehy Pep and Crisis Cathouse, Brown Street, 248 6606. 8pm. £5 in advance, £6 on door. Thrashy types who redeem themselves with a host of silly song titles and amusing stage presence. Crisis rock away in a funky vein.
I Balance, Eden and Dreniees KingTut’s Wah Wah Hut, St Vincent Street, 221 5279. 8.30pm. £3. A very varied sweep tonight, spanning funk to folk influences. Running order to be decided on the night. See preview.
I Sawtooth and Blue The Dunny. Bogle Stone, Glassford Street, 553 1638. 9.30pm. £2. Noisy Canadians in the Sonic Youth mould. The rabble-rousing punk, funky Glue have recently released their debut LP Gravel which your mother won’t find to her liking.

Already starting promotion for a single that‘s due early next year, and putting the finishing touches to the dub remix version of their line An Unexpected Groovy Treat album, the Finis have also been doing remixes for Happy Mondays amongst others. This should be a fun show, with the band‘s meaningful messages never getting in the way of their sense of humour and imaginative staging. - I Reverend Drown And The Early Birds Negociants, Lothian Street, 225 6313. 10pm. Free. Gutsy blues and power-shanties from the string-shredding ' Rev and crew, who are now making the journey from the Midlands to Central Scotland often enough to qualify as commuters.

I The Wedding Present Barrowland. Gallowgate. 552 4601. 7.30pm. £7 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just the Ticket. Virgin. Union Street. 226 4679. The Status Quo it‘s OK but not very trendy to like will play probably to their usual busy Barrowland crowd tonight. smug in the knowledge that their healthy singles sales throughout the year prove that someone out there is still listening to their splenetic lyrics and careering guitars.
I Finitribe Queen Margaret Union. University Gardens. 339 9784. 8pm. £5.50. Students and guests. Never allowing their ‘techno pioneers‘ tag to turn their heads. Finitribc continue to make varied dance music with a poppy songbase to it. Their costumes and stage sets confirm they make an effort live too.

I TTF Cubik Club. Music Box. Victoria Street, 225 2564. 10pm—3am. Scotland‘s Number One dance band. say readers of Clubscene— and they‘re not the onlyones who think so. The Time Frequency‘s Futurama EP and ‘Real Love‘ single have sold exceptionally well in Scotland. and they‘ve probably lost count of the number of raves they‘ve played in their time together.
I Jad Fair Moray House Student Union. Holyrood Road. 556 8455. America‘s most vulnerable rock performer spreads a little sunshine with his naive. touching and frequently chaotic songs. The uninitiated could find his solo sets a bit of an ordeal (actually tuning his guitar isn‘t rock’n‘roll enough for him). but at this venue a few months ago with Half Japanese he was pretty wonderful. Just ask dedicated disciples The Pastels to name their ultimate heroes and Jad will be near. ifnot at. the top.
I Hakossa Preservation Hall. Victoria Street, 226 3816. £1 .50 after 9pm. A steaming brew of reggae. soul and well-executed African pop.
I Hugh Reed And The Velvet Underpants Negociants, Lothian Street. 225 6313. 10pm. Free. Glaswegian funsters who earned their place in our memories with the rather good ‘Six Tae Wan‘ and the Walk On The Clyde Side EP.

I The Frames Strathclydc University l Union. John Street. 552 1895. 9pm. £3.50. Students and guests.
