Buying for the Future Until 7 Jun. The second selection of recent acquisitions purchased from Glasgow City Council‘s £3 million fund. These works are by Bridget Riley, Joyce Cairns, Fiona Carlisle, John Keane, John Bellany, Otto Dix, Joseph Davie, Ken Kiff, David Hockney and Allen Jones, and will eventually be hung in Glasgow‘s new Gallery of Modern Art, scheduled to open in 1996.
Banners olthe World Until 31 May. An international tribute to banner-making and its social, political and cultural roles. Examples of the last ten years‘ work include a segment from the AIDS quilt and a massive banner made by prisoner of conscience Hong Song-Dam.
tiew Arts: Fellow Travellers Until 7 Jun. Art delves into pop, to examine the latest graphic design techniques being used in the music industry — in this case, Deacon Blue‘s album, Fellow Hoodlums comes in for particular scrutiny.
Andrew Starlt: Portraits of Glasgow Museums Stall Until 7 Jun. Fifty portraits of the staff who turn the cogs and oil the wheels that make Glasgow museums tick. l British Gas Wildlife Photographer ol the Year Fri 8 May—7 Jun. The ninth consecutive year of this prestigious competition.
Jocit McFadyen: Fragments from Berlin Sat 9 May—21 Jun. Paintings, gouaches and sculptures created by the artist as part of his brief from the Imperial War Museum, to work in Berlin shortly afterthe dismantling of the wall.

David McMillan: Hunger for Gold Until 7 Jun. As part of Tramway’s Discovering Columbus season, two young Scottish artists create large-scale installations reflecting their personal responses to the quincentenary. McMillan‘s takes the form of a number of banners. or ‘saiIs’, which address the positive and negative reactions of celebration and protest. A billboard bearing the ambiguous message America for the Americans will be situated on the Pollokshaws Road.
