Buying iorthe Future Until 7 Jun. The second selection of recent acquisitions purchased from Glasgow City Council’s£3 million fund. These works are by Bridget Riley. Joyce Cairns. Fiona Carlisle, John Keane, John Bellany, Otto Dix, Joseph Davie, Ken Kiff, David Hockney and Allen Jones, and will eventually be hung in Glasgow‘s new Gallery of Modern Art, scheduled to open in 1996.

As part of Tramway’s Discovering Columbus season, two young Scottish artists create large-scale installations reflecting their personal responses to the quincentenary. McMillan’s takes the form of a number of banners, or ‘sails‘, which addressthe positive and negative reactions of celebration and protest. A billboard bearing the ambiguous messageAmerica forrhe Americans will be situated on the Pollokshaws Road.
Matthew Dalziel: Blue and White Sat 2 May—7 Jun. in a smaller space, Dalziel creates an atmospheric installation evocative of the voyages of ships sailing across the ocean.
