V NEWS
I Blast Oil-3 Following their events at The Arches in Glasgow in September of last year and February of this year, Blast Off return with another unique night on 2 May. This time the venue is secret (within one hour of both Glasgow and Edinburgh) but, fret not, included in the ticket price are buses that will transport you from the centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh to the ‘historic Scottish location‘. DJ 5 so far confirmed include Pussy Power's Terry and Jason, Blast Off‘s Lex and Paul and Pure’s Twitch and Brainstorm. The event will be a benefit for the Beltane Fire Society (organisers of the annual pagan fire festival on Edinburgh’s Calton Hill) and as such will feature the Beltane drummers and many of the festival‘s mythical figures. Tickets, priced £18.50, are available only in advance from Theatre Worksh0p, Swingbeat Records and Blue Moon Cafe (Edinburgh), and GFT, lchi Ni San, Grasshopper, 23rd Precinct and Lost in Music (Glasgow). Further information on 041 649 7476 after 6pm.
I Mambo Inn Those with a long memory may remember Mambo lnn from last year’s Festival in Edinburgh. Well, they return to Liberty’s with the first of a series of monthly clubs on 25 Apr. From 1 1pm—4am the sounds of Latin, African and Jazz music will be intoxicating the clientele. Rita Ray, resident DJ at the Brixton Mambo will be heading the DJ line-up on the first night. The club is now in its sixth year of operation in Brixton where it plays to packed dancefloors every weekend, so a regular Mambo in Edinburgh (last Saturday of every month) should be a welcome breath of tropical air.
