Very London in its atomosphere and preoccupations. and with a central character that is really a bit

(iittes caught up in murder case involving sleazy LA corruption and a few uncomfortable memories for the drawling one. Intelligent script. again by Robert Towne. fleshes out the original characters but builds a plot that is just too damn complicated. Julie Hagerty. Charlie Korsmo. 107 mins. Dreyfuss and Murray return to top form with this lunatic comedy about a multi-phobie patient who drives his anal-retentive shrink to distraction. The suggestion of something a little more disturbing threatens to rear its head every now and then. but is restrained by the strait-jacket of the Touchstone formula — as it was in Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Still. the duo generate laughs aplenty in one of the year's more successful comedy outings. Central: Regal.

Lynch's much-hyped Cannes prize-winner turns out to be weird and wondrous in its own way. if not quite as cohesive as the earlier Blue Velvet. Cage and Dern are the energetic young lovers on the run. pursued by ultrastrange hitman Dafoe on a sometimes comic.
