Two of the Tankin lads join regular Mr Turntable Dave Ross to add their brand of indie dance and the odd wacky number to Romp. under the somewhat dodgy slogan ‘Romp music for sex people‘. Hmm. Look out for some promising live shows in the near future too.

Not content with choosing live records like everyone else, shy and retiring types Scott McCallum (pictured) and Mark Carapiet, lrom Glasgow’s Marmalade Skies (alternate Thursdays, Maylair) and Psychotic Reaction (monthly, Mayfair), have selected no less than ten at their lavourite tracks. Lucky us, eh?

1. The Byrds: Eight Miles High

A real classic track which gets everyone in the mood to enjoy a night out.

2. Dinosaur Jr: Freak Scene

Fast, lrantic American music oi worth, which exposes all the chart todder as second rate.

3. The Doors: Peaceirog

Yup, better than the best. A white blues band that could show The Pet Shop Boys how to really use their instruments.

4. Sonic Youth: Teen Age Biol

When in lull flow can seriously make music mean more than just another song...

5. Ride: Unlamiliar etc

Personally I preier Kaledioscope, but they might stay around ii they grow with their music.

6. The Clash: Should I Stay 0r Should I Go?

Simply great to dance, shout or stomp to.

7. Iron Butterlly: ln-A-Gadda-Da-Vlda 60s psychedelic rock powers out at one of the best songs of that decade.

8. Happy Mondays: Kinky Atro Manchester, still so much to answer lor. Holds back the bleep blip twiddle brigade though.

9. Music Machine: The Eagle Never Hunts The Fly

Social comment on America which is as true today as it ever was.

10. My Jealous God: Pray

A great indie sound sure to be a classic in years to come.

I Ital at Liberty‘s. 10pm—3am. £2.50. 21 June only. Scotland‘s original reggae club begins to woo back its followers after a long absence. Whether you‘re a natty dread or baldhead, their selection of roots, lovers, revives, dce—jay and dance is bound to get you going. Featuring special guest DJ Youthman. I Marley’s Reggae Klub at Network 2. 10.30pm-4am. £2. Another reggae night (as ifyou couldn‘t guess) still running after an incredible thirteen years. Can be a little retrospective at times, but nevertheless always busy. I Madison's Rock Night 9pm—3am. £2. Pretty self-explanatory this one. I Messenger Hl-Fl Sound System at Moray House. 9pm—3am. Ragga, roots, lovers and heavyweight dub that’s quality reggae to you and me, plus a bigsound system and cultural MC. Not the only club ofthis persuasion by any means, but by far the most hard-edged. I Millles 10pm—6am. £2 before 2am,£3 after. Favourite late night hang out of clubbers, club runners and those whojust won‘t go to bed. Dark, crowded and unbelievably tacky, but stillfabulous. I Pure at The Venue. llpm-4am. Members and Guests only. With a bpm count higher than the US budget deficit, it’s not hard to see why this has earned a reputation as Edinburgh's finest dance club of late.
