Pocket Theatre Cumbrla
Mirror, mirror on the wall, what’s the smallest touring company of them all? A sure contender must be the aptly named Pocket Theatre Cumbria, currently in Scotland with “Martin's Magic Mirror’ and coming your way soon- it you live near Glasgow.
Pocket has a thrifty cast of three, but it does have twelve puppets from the popular Overthe Top Puppets, ranging in size from a 9th glove to a 7ft
monster. ‘Martin’s Magic Mirror’ by Brian Elsly tells of a young boy whose
father is a failed inventor and hasn't got
time for his son who becomes lonely and bored and strays into the forbidden attic where he finds not a skeleton but a Super Duper Life Enhancer! Just what
you’d expect.
This unusual machine brings to life an old mfrrorwhfch effects drastic developments in the lives of its reflections. Martin finds himself in a crazy adventure involving weird characters- Sammy, a Kung-Fu fighting snail, the evil-doing Nanny Snatcher and Danny Dandruff (who young theatregoers will recognise from Pocket’s last production ‘Mandy Redmayne Steps into a Story'), played again by Mark Sinatra. Mark's fellow cast members, Mark Niven (Martin) and Rachel Ogilvy (Nanny) will also be familiar to audiences from their appearances in last year’s touring of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'.
Obviously a cast which likes an adventure — exploring forbidden attics sounds just the sort of thing that Mandy Redmayne and Tom Sawyer would also enjoy. Lead me to the Ramsay Ladder.
