I Dunlermline v Motherwell East End Park. Halbeath Road. Dunfermline. 3pm. Ian Munro has done well since takingover from big Jim (Leishman). A well-known poet and revered manager. Jim. is currently working as a Mensa-recognised rival to John Grieg. Both can cleverly punctuate their sentences with ‘Ehhh‘ five or six times per cliche.

I Hearts V Celtic Tynecastle Park. Gorgie Road. Edinburgh. 3pm. TYNECASTLE TICKET PRICES IN RETURN TO SANITY SHOCKER! Someone should have told Mercer that the clash between a mid-table Premier League side and a lacklustre bottom of the league Italian club could not be priced in the same bracket as a Frank Sinatra concert. Asit was. the grossly inflated entrance fees for their recent UEFA cup-tie merely succeeded in keeping thousands ofloyal

INJU RY TIME Dundee United, a football club well known for producing youthful prodigies, have yet another old boy waiting to pull on a Scottish jersey. This time however, 30 year-old Graham Marshall will be running out onto the heated lurl oi Murraytield ratherthan into the heated atmosphere at Hampden. The former footballer lorsook Tannadice for Selkirk long ago. Previously, he has enjoyed only briet spells in the blue jersey- he appeared against the tourists from Australia and Fiji during the last two years, though never for a complete match. This time, in the absence of Derek White, Finlay Calder and Derek Turnbull, he will be given a chance to shine against Argentina on 10 November.

The lull composition of the Scottish XV has not yet been confirmed. Damian Cronin and captain David Sole were both nursing injuries at the squad's recent training session. Sole sultered a broken toe during club training and went on to play a lull game lorthe French Barbarians against the All Blacks before he noticed it. Despite

such fortitude, he was advised not to participate in club rugby on 3 November. Both Sole and Cronin, though, stress they will be lit to play againstArgentina.

The last-moving Pumas will be the lirst side to visit Murraylield since the memorable ‘Flower of Scotland' match and this friendly will be watched eagerly for signs that that triumph can be repeated. Ii Scotland can maintain such marvellous momentum throughout the forthcoming bout of internationals, they can look forward to next autumn’s World Cup with confidence. With Britain, Ireland and France hosting the 1991 tournament the Scots will expect to benelit from the home advantage in their matches againstJapan, Zimbabwe and Ireland next October. In the meantime, practice against less experienced sides at Murraylield takes on a new signiligance. (Ross Parsons) Scotland vArgentlna, 10 Nov, Murraylield, Edinburgh. 2pm. fans away. To show such scant regard for the supporters is criminal and ruined what could have been a glorious night of European football for Hearts. The excuse that ticket prices in Italy are regularly set at this level is currency-paper thin. There, the stadiums are to Tynecastle as Maradonna is to McPherson. lfHearts fail to progress to the next round. European competition will leave a bad taste in the mouths of many a fan.

I Rangers v Dundee Utd Ibrox Stadium. Glasgow. 3pm. Rangers. currently over the parrot after their victory in the Skol Cup Final, will now hope to put pressure on McLean‘s babes at the top ofthe league. Having finally got his Oleg over.

Souness is now in the frustrating position of having to build a defence from the materials that were available before the arrival of Kuznetsov.

I St Johnstone v Hibernian McDiarmid Park. Perth. 3pm. Can the Saints really go marching on. or will Hibs trip them up? I St Mirren v Aberdeen Love Street. Paisley. 3pm. The Buddies may well bear the brunt of the backlash stored up over recent barren weeks by a very competent Aberdeen side.

PREMIER LEAGUE

I Celtic V St linen Celtic Park , Gallowgate. Glasgow. 3pm. Despite their disappointment at Hampden recently, Celtic continue to look capable of scoring a hatful in every game. One day, their promise will come to fruition and despite the current cosmopolitan air of the Paisley outfit, the Saints may well be on the receiving end today.

I Dundee litd v Aberdeen Tannadice Park, Tannadice Street, Dundee. 3pm. Always an intriguing, if not thrilling, encounter, the sides are too well-matched to kick-up a good game.

I Nlbemlan v Dunlennline Easter Road Stadium, Albion Road, Edinburgh. 3pm. I Motherwell v Rangers Fir Park, Motherwell. 3pm. A chance for the Motherwell management to do some talent spotting for future old codgers who may graduate from the Rangers' pool to the Motherwell bench.
