I The Waterboys Strathclyde Park. SOLD OL'T. Mike Scott and co (touring in support of their new album. Room to Roam) mop up in the wake oflast weekend's rave. pushing the raggle-taggle trend they virtually invented to almost parodic limits. in much the same way as we've been experiencing Manchester overload in the past few months. interesting to note the more frequent use of this ‘venue' in the search for alternative gig locations. An epic achievement deserving support from anyone interested in Scotland's industrial history or simply those who will enjoy the spectacle. Dreaded (as in hair) quartet from Kirkliston and Oxford (home also to Creation labelmates Ride) Swervedriver effectively redress the noise/dance balance of the indie chart with their ‘Son of Mustang Ford' debut — direct. powerful guitar rock with a nod in the direction of Buffalo Tom and even Primal Scream's second album. before they got caught in the crossover vortex.

Greenside Place. 557 2590. 7.30pm. £12.50. £10. it's hard for world music sophisticates to reconcile their love of the Gipsy Kings with that group‘s insistence on playing ‘My Way". but it's served them well as an attention-getter. Eighteen years together. all related. and genuine gipsies. they have performed for stars like Charlie Chaplin and Brigitte Bardot as well as conjuring up massive audiences in Europe and North Africa. The release of their first LP in 1987. though. signalled the first interest in the band over here. Has the interest that surrounded them increased in the last year. we wonder?
