All the Rivers Hun, Keith Grant, 369 Gallery.
The title of the exhibition is from Ecclesiastes, ‘All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from which the rivers come; thither they return again.‘
There are nine paintings which are acrylic on paper and all fall underthe one title. The forms used are slightly ambiguous, suggesting low flat vessels, channels, mill-stones, even deserts, and almost all contain or emit an intense light. Watertravels from one side to another through channels from source to reservoir; there are vessels which float upon and simultaneously contain and isolate a

small amount of water.
individually and collectively, the paintings are pleasing. Their relatively modest size is refreshing, each one resonating quietly. But what does it all mean? However competent, beautiful or enigmatic these paintings are, or the significance of the Biblical text, I still have a ‘thirst’ for a bit more. Does the some of the parts add up to more or less of the whole? Grant is a serious artist but what he is serious about is not clear. it made me think deeply of water, its scarcity and abundance, its mundane domesticity and its power, both functionally and spiritually. And maybe that is enough. (Gordon Brennan)
