I Pale Saints King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut, 272 St Vincent Street, 221 5279. 10pm. A fine example of yer average 4AD band, the Pale Saints mix the sensitivity ofthe Cocteau Twins with the harder edge ofthe Pixies. The band have just released their second album The Comfort of Madness. Don’t miss it, indie kids.
I Glass Onion Buchanan Hotel, 185 Buchanan Street, 332 7284. Unfortunately, their tape has gone astray from the Edinburgh office. The one listen our Edinburgh editor got, though, convinced him that the band merited investigation.

This gig is being recorded for Radio One, and apparently Nicky Campbell and Mark Goodier will be in attendance. Yow! Support, Call Me Clive, from Edinburgh, should be doing about an hour, and if you think you can handle two hours of Gun,be our guest.
I The Catburgers and The Mutiny Strings Basin Street, Haymarket Terrace, 337 1006. 8pm—midnight. Two extremely good local bands you might consider worth missing Loop and World Domination Enterprises for. The Catburgers have an album-length tape of tracks already, much of it inspired by the kind ofdreamy English psychedelia that the TV Personalities picked up on, much of it more up tempo indie pop. ‘Children‘s TV‘, which consists entirely of the titles of children‘s TV programmes, is thankfully not typical. The Mutiny Strings are also
worth seeing, a band of no little talent and some steaming riffs.
I ilaile Suspect and The Junlryerd Angels Pleasance Bar, The Pleasance. 8pm. £1 . Reggae and rock bands augmented by the comedy duo The Parma-Violents at this cabaret night, with profits going to Romania through the Flanders Scottish Alliance.
I Silent Falls Negociants, Lothian Street, 225 6313. 9.45pm. Free. Sporadically interesting moody 80$ rock. Probably a lot better live, as there are hints oftension and drama in the studio versions oftheir songs.

I The Lovebird Trio BB's Basement Bar, Barony Street, 556 8240. 5—7pm, 8—1 1pm. Free. Just flown in from the Phillipines, where they have amassed ‘a bit of everything’ to augment their traditional tagalog music. Even playing six nights a week, it could be a while before their repertoire is exhausted.
I The Rootsles Duo Globe, West Port,229 4553. 9pm. Free. Jim Condie on guitar and Ron Tate on vocals and harmonica, taking time off from The Rootsie Tootsie Blues Band to play some blues, gospel and even a hint of jazz.

I Del Amitri Pavilion Theatre, 121 Renfield Street. 332 1846. Though the Top 15 single, ‘Nothing Ever Happens‘, is a quiet strummy song, live, Del Amitri give it loads of rock‘n‘roll attitude, long hair and loud guitars. Constant touring has made them into a kick-ass rock band and I’m sure a leather trousers appearance can’t be long now.

I The Thieves King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut, 272 St Vincent Street, 221 5279. Midnight. Pristine pop fodder from another Glasgow band, and you know what that means: Guitars, more guitars and vocals like Goodbye Mr Mackenzie. Their last gig for a while, as they’re just about to enter Shabby Road studios to record their debut LP. Note that the late starting time means they won't clash with Del Amitri.
I The Dutrlders Halt Bar, 160 Woodlands Road, 332 1210. The bassist and guitarist spent recent months touring with The River Detectives, the keyboard player with His Latest Flame. the drummer with Hearts and Minds and the singer, Jack Riley, will be remembered from Strangers and Brothers. Combined, they play an American-influenced rock which, according to the completely unbiased Jim from The Halt will blow our socks off.
I Dig George and the euslness Woodend, Bellshill. Powered-up blues to crotch-level rocking out from the dirtiest-sounding low-down trio in town.

I Vesell Muziki Assembly Rooms, George Street. 8pm—midnight. £4.50 (£3). Fiddle, accordion, bass, traditional costumes— Veseli Muziki are being touted as Kiev‘s top musical group. And who are we to debate that? Direct from the USSR, and playing as part of the Fourth Edinburgh Peace Festival.
I The Spooks Bikini Club, Moray House Student Union, Holyrood Road, 5568455. 10pm—2am. £2. Edinburgh band, whose Beatlesque posters you’ll have seen all around town. It’s been said that their gimmicky appearance distracts from the music, but their name‘s getting around town as being very much one of the bands to see. The Bikini Club is their own venture — ‘a bizarre merger of 19605 iconography and the latest technology‘. I The Stage Dolls and Loud Bedrock Club, Venue, Calton Road, 557 3073. Scandinavian heavy rock band, just finished supporting Hanoi Rocks’ Michael Monroe. '
I The Great Junction Street Band Trading Post, The Shore, 553 5153. Quality mainstream melodic soft rock, served up by a talented pool of musicians, probably holding more appeal for those who feel they‘ve outgrown their wailing, thunderous rock collection.

Some egghcads even profess to understand the cult’s rituals. while completely ignoring the strain such immodest fervour puts on the fabric ofour society. We have heard tell ofanother crooner, who takes his name from a bawdy Fielding novel and inspires his female admirers to such displays oferotic excitement that we blanch to describe them here. Make no mistake, we consider such depravity an intolerable affront to decent morality, and implore all good citizens to join us in condemningthis disgraceful trend. Especially if he doesn‘t play ‘Bermuda Triangle‘.
