‘Dur Future Shouldn’t Cost the Earth’ is the greeny theme of this year’s Spring Fling ’90 competitions in painting, poetry and photography, open to all in the Lothian Region. So it you think you’ve go! green artistic lingers, or a green turn of phrase or a green eye, why not enter the children’s section, there’s marvellous prizes to be won. Cameron Toll Shopping Centre are presenting the top entrants in the painting section with mementos and cheques. Winners in the photography section will receive mementos and tokens to be spent in Edinburgh Cameras and Waterstones supply the book tokens and mementos to the best of the bards in the Poetry section. Under18s are split into age categories in each section. Entrants are asked to reflect their thoughts in any 0! the three mediums, on the conservation of resources and man’s awareness of the dangers to us all. Organisers Edinburgh District Council suggest a few topics which might get you started: Acid Rain, ‘Green’ Edinburgh, The Changing Landscape, Industrial Waste, Eilects of Pollution of Land and Sea, The ‘Greenhouse Eliect’ and Wildlite in Danger.

Last year the competition attracted over 1600 entries and the council are hoping for an even larger amount this year from environmentally-iriendly poets, artists and photographers.
