I Messenger Reggae Sound System The Venue. 9pm—late. £2 (£1.50). For the first time in Edinburgh a reggae club that plays Ragamuffin, Lovers rock and some massive Dub instead of chart reggae. Having been on the Edinburgh Club scene for a while toasting in various clubs, Papa Zeb I now runs his own club using the 4k PA to its full effect.

I Blubols 1990 Network 1/2/3. Tickets £2 from Ripping Records, Cafe C6$te and Avalanche or £3 on the door. Aimingto raise £1000 for Ethiopian famine victims and Edinburgh Rape Crisis, Blubols will take over the whole of The Network for a Valentines Day celebration on 14 Feb. Network One will groove to independent
dance music, house and hip-hop from Spanish Harlem DJs and DJs Bootsie and A-One, Network Two features latin, soul and jazz from DJ Juan and Network Three will cool out to Sixties music. Since the last review, Breathless has managed not only to draw a good crowd but also to encompass more up-to-date club sounds, playing tracks from groups such as NWA and Dela Soul, makingthis student club one of the best of its kind. I Sexbeat Shady Lady‘s. 10.30pm—3am. £2.00 (£1 .50 before 11pm). Billed with an invitation to sleaze the night away, this new club plays mostly Nu-Beat and Indie dance music. The strong advertising campaign will help this club take off.

I Chateaux Cha Cha Blue Oyster Club. 10.30pm—3am. £2.50. A club whose aim is to bring the best of the gay/straight club scene together under one groove. Roxy‘s efforts seem to have succeeded with the crowd sporting designer gear from Richmond to Westwood. Music supplied by the Dreadnought Hi-Fi Sound system and Temple Sounds.
I Freedom Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am. £2.00. Incorporating a wide spectrum of the dance scene, this club not only plays House and Hip Hop but also a good dose of R‘n’B, soul and ska. Organised by the same crew who run Breathless, the club aims to provide a good night out as well as fundraising once a month.

GLASGOW Activities and fun
I BLAST OFF! Glasgow Arts Centre, 12 Washington Street, 248 4626.
Four days of non-stop activity, from face-painting and circus skills to photography and ballet workshops. 16-19 February. Most events take place in the Glasgow Arts Centre but some are outwith the centre. £1 day ticket/£3 weekend special allows you access to the Centre. To take part in any workshop or see a performance you must book your place, in advance by telephone, or during the Enrolment times each day. There‘s ‘Adult Creche’ throughout each day for grown-ups to relax with a cuppa and a newspaper. For further booking details, contact Centre.
