Despite the low critical esteem often given to such Agatha Christie-style mysteries. they have proved perennially popular with audiences and the Brunton has set out to prove that Du Maurier has been seriously underestimated. The first is a monologue by Chekhov featuring a hen-peeked husband addressing his wife's school for girls. The second is Joe Orton‘s holiday camp farce. Should be fun. A good month for Polish theatre this. Theatre Workshop is about to play host to mime and dance group Teatr Blik. but first a new locally-based company has been set up to perform Polish plays in translation. Directed by Lisa Baraitser. the debut of Theatre Dedykacja features two short plays by 5.1. Witkiewicz and Slawomir Mrozek respectively and includes amongst its company an actor — Will Brook — who trained for two months with Teatr Blik. Witkiewicz is now commonly regarded as the father of Theatre ofthe Absurd —some of his childhood plays were performed a couple of months back at Glasgow‘s RSAMD — and. with help from Art School students and a promenade performance. The Mad Man and the Nun will attempt to exteriorise the mind of the mad man.
