NETTING
0n the eve of the domestic season's resumption, Scottish Basketball received a well-timed fillip in the form of a historic first victory over Sweden in the men’s international, which was held on Sunday 10 at Meadowbank. Having defeated England fairly comprehensively, the Swedes were confidently expected to take Scotland apart, but rarely did they exert control and the Scots ran out winners, 81—70.
As encouraging for Men’s Scottish Basketball, the domestic First Division will see an influx of a substantial number of players who last season were participating in the more prestigious Carslberg British League. This follows the withdrawal of Glasgow Rangers and MIM Livingston from the Carslberg League and whilst some have left Scotland to continue their careers with other teams, others have chosen to remain behind. As far as lain MacLean and Graeme Hill (responsible for 43 of Scotland's 81 points) are concerned, they will be making the short step from the MIM Livingston team previously of the Carslberg League to the MIM Livingston team who have participated in the Scottish First Division for years and who, indeed, won both the League and Cup last season.
Whilst some might mourn the passing of the Carslberg MIM outfit. who regularly attracted four figure attendances to the Forum in Livingston, the overall prospects for Scottish Basketball seem relatively optimistic. (Mike Wilson)
