SLIP SLIDING AWAY

Bristo Street Piazza (opposite Fringe Club)

It’s a slide show with a difference which keeps the queue into the Fringe Club quiet (well, almost). Falling waterand tinkling music tips the strange machine into gentle action. Made and operated by Mary Walters of the Edinburgh Slide Workshop and a group of Edinburgh artists, the chariot pours water, spins wheels, turns

Every component is vulnerable and fragile—the transparent flags, spindly, homespun construction and dissolving slides. As interlocking pieces they weave a gentle environmental message into the fabric of the performance itself—things are so easily blown away. Though the performance was to have finished on 24 Aug, Walters hopes to extend the run. An extensive tour of the north of Scotland is planned forthe autumn.(AB)
