BEFORE THE FRINGE
Rumourhas itthat Edinburgh is about to host a festival of some sort. We at The List consider ourselves above such rumours, though we have noticed an increase of theatrical activity in the city during August in previous years, which would tend to supportthe theory. Looks as though the same is going to happen this yeartoo. You don’t have to wait, however. until the glorious Twelfth to see some of the activity—you will find a few Fringe performers a little iurtherto the Westthis week.
At Glasgow's Third Eye Centre you can seethe lirstshowing of ‘Mammon‘ and ‘Radio Sing Sing'. ‘Mammon’ stars Robert Llewellyn (who will be a familiarfaceto fans ofthe Joeys) asa cyborg. built by a female scientistwho intends to create Mammon. the ultimate profit-dedicated cyborg, but accidentally programmes him ‘Lust Mode 691'. ‘Radio Sing Sing' is a promising collaboration betweentwo fine sets of talents— Man Act. whose beautifully choreographed shows ‘Man Act I' and ‘Man Act II‘ were Festival hits, and Steve Shill. whose gently moving ‘Fine Film of Ashes‘ was a success at this year‘s Mayfest. Here Shill directs Man Actinthe strangetale of two men who discover more than they anticipated on Papua. New Guinea
