SDLDIER’S TALE ‘I bet had Stravinsky known the Puppet Players he would not have written his Soldier‘s Tale lordancers. but lorthe colourlul shadow ligures as presented in this production.‘ 80 said the German press earlier this year alter the London Munich Puppet company‘s production at Stravinsky's classic setting ol the enchanting Russian lolk late at the soldier who marries a princess but lalls into the power ol the devil. In an imaginative venture. the Puppet Players get together with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra lor live performances at The Soldier‘s Tale at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh between 26 and 30 July. the only Scottish perlormances belore the show opens at the Little Angel Theatre in London. Already it has toured successlully to Israel, Germany. Japan, Yugoslavia and plans are being made lor visits to the USA and Switzerland in the autumn. Originally lorseven musicians. narrator and dancerthe replacement at the latter by shadow puppets means that the story can be acted out in the puppets' unique mix at lollt charm and originality through the sculpture ol the shapes. Suitable tor adults and children. (Carol Main)
