Paul Coia will be rooted in The Garden Festival to present the Scottish end of ITV’s massive tundraising event, Telethon ’88.
Forten minutes every hour, Paul will be introducing events at excruciating sillyness. King Kong will abseiling oh the Clydesdale Bank Tower, 4000 dancers will be bashing out the largest tap dance in the world and Coia will be auctioning oii Eddie Kidd, Miss Scotland and Walter Carr. And that’s not the hall oi it.
Alltogether, the ITV Telethon will be, at 27 hours, the longest show in British TV history- or at least that's the aim. Michael Aspel will be doing the Wogan bit and hosting the network part oi the programme lrom London, which begins at 7pm on Sunday 29 May. The intention says the Network Producer is to create a ‘National village lete with a strong regional llavour', and it could actually prove to be one at the tow occassions that lTV successfully tultills the potential at its federated system.
It’s hoped to raise millions oi pounds which will all go to UK charities, administered by a special Telethon Trust of which Prince Charles is Patron. But equally important to the ITV bosses will be the millions who tune in. lTV has been losing the ratings battle with the BBC tor more months than ITV
