It’s going to be hard to avoid The Crows overthis fortnight. The Edinburgh-based

smattering of gigs to coincide with the release oftheir tourth single ‘The Love You Bun', a re-recording ofthe B-side of their last-but-one single, ‘Red Man‘. “The Love You Run’, as well as being the theme tune for a Channel Four film, is also their last single for the Survival label. The Crows are now searching for a major deal to get an LP under their belts, and have their eyes fixed on the States, where their heads-down hard-rocking would no doubt appeal to a wide audience. Their previous singles have already been played on American college radio, and the band are scorntul oi the industry‘s theory that they need to get a high profile in Britain first.
Determination and dedication has been a hallmark of the band since their previous incarnation, First Priority, collapsed under record company pressure and the band's naivete. Says singer Ross: ‘I think everybody in this band knows we're worth it. We write all-right songs and come up with a good song now and again. The stage act can be together, and good and live. So it's just a case of doing it, 'cause you know something's gonna happen. But a lot of it is to do with luck.’

In the meantime a long player is the
(ahem) first priority. As Boss says, ‘It
makes a lot of psychological difference to the people in the streets if you have an album out . . . I think we‘re an album band.‘ Though a difficult concept to define, and they try hard, an album band emerges as a band have more space to express themselves, who write good but uncommercial songs, which deny them access to the singles charts, but result in hit albums—a feat almost unheard of since Led Zeppelin. An album band will have a strong emphasis on playing live, the direction that The Crows feel is their strength, and their saving grace when the time comes to crack America.
They attribute their lack ofcourageto unlashionability, and complain that wheneverthe English press does mention them it is only to lump them in with a certain scene, like the goths and
