It has also attracted the interest 01 Scottish Television, who have been assiduous in championing this sport on the small screen. With the number at curling rinks in Scotland currently growing rapidly, and greater numbers at people showing an interest in playing the sport, Executive Producer Russell Galbraith thinks the sport is a delinite growth area.

the Channel 4, 6pm slot, which we package tor them, while our own late night slot also does well.

‘I think the sport is building up, and we can help by bringing a better understanding oi the game to more viewers-a lot 01 people still think the players are aiming at a big bullseye! The game has a good image now, and I think it will start to appeal to an even wider spectrum.’

Royal Caledonian Curling Club President Robin Brechin agrees with that assessment. The RCCC have recently appointed a lull-time coach, Jane Sanderson, and she will be working in schools and communities, taking the sport not only away lrorn that taming image, but beyond the yuppie image It has now established, while the steady growth in rinks and tacillties can only help that spread.
