Edinburgh tor the Under Fives (National Childbirth Trust, £2.95). Nine mothers (oi sixteen children) have compiled and written this tremendously uselul book. It comprises 172 pages on how to be equal to the endless demands at small children at their most inquisitive and least predictable. (Not to mention the demands ol tull bladders and bulging buggies). A non-profit making venture by the National Childbirth Trust and produced by local members, the book has been extensively researched and includes details down to the last restaurant highchair and doesn’t omit to tell you where to hire a specially
shaped tin tor a birthday cake. Every eventuality lrom birthdays to travel and nursery schools to illness has not only been allowed tor but, you feel, experienced. Shops with steep steps and no lilt orthe lact that gents' public Iavatories have no provision tor leeding or changing babies do not go unnouced.
Its style is simple, clear and iactual and my only caveat is that given this is such a comprehensive and sound piece 01 work it doesn’t have a lull index or more consistently alphabetical listings. (Sally Kinnes)
