Charles Rennie Mackintosh: The Pursuit oi Periection Until Sat 2 May. An accompanying video to the exhibition begins by asking random Glaswegians if they know who Mackintosh was. Vague replies include allusions to raincoats vindicating the narrator’s purpose, illustrating how under-rated the artist still is in his home town. Using examples of furniture together with photographs the exhibition shows how far from Art Nouveau Mackintosh’s style was. His attenuated plant forms don’t scroll, but are straight and slender as if reaching for the light. Kara Wilson recently completed a documentary on Mackintosh with her husband, actor Tom Conti. Entitled Dreams and Reflections it was written by Alastair Moffat and will be broadcast on Scottish Television later this year.
