Charles Gavin Until Sat 20 Dee. Originally from Edinburgh. this painter trained in Paris and has since moved to Devon. This is his first showing in Scotland since the 1972 Edinburgh Festival. See panel. Arne Eckland Thurs l8 Dec—31 Jan. As part of the Norwegian Autumn in Scotland. this81 year-old painter from near Oslo will be showing at the Art Centre. Shy ofpublieity. he is scarcely known. even in his own country. His characters are surrounded by the tools of everyday life. but at the same time are part ofa cosmic scene. Record Cover Art Sat 13 Dec-Sat 24 Jan. Since the first covers appeared in the Fifties. their design has reflected not only trends in contemporary art but also those in society. From Two Worlds Until 8 Jan. From Two Worlds is an exhibition that looks at contemporary art in Britain made with a twin focus. Skari Douglas (‘amp lives half her life in Nigeria. the other halfin London. Culturally she has double vision. Het ‘Church Ede‘ sculpts her father's four-poster death bed into metallic life. Press a button and the piece is set in motion hankies fanned by the chief‘s three widows. shoo away the flies. Fusing the sculptural techniques and narratives ofthe Niger Delta with technology and a new artistic vocabulary. she has become confidently plural. Fifteen other artists show their interpretation of living in two worlds. Roundabout Photographs Until 3 Jan. Organised as a summer project by the Roundabout International Centre. these photographs will be on display in the cafe.
