The well-known pair of whalebones over the entrance to Jawbone Walk is one small lasting reminder of the event. BERLIN EXHIBITED
The 20th century has seen several influential architectural exhibitions in Germany. In the late 19208 when the modernists displayed their wares in Stuttgart, the image torthe ideal living unitwas clean, white, and separate trom the real city. In sharp contrast, the 1987 building exhibition in Berlin, a useful way oI celebrating that city’s 750th anniversary, is about the repair and regeneration at a war-ravaged city.

Marlt Cousin's simple line drawings evoke the essentials ot the buildings’ cubic, colourful forms very well. It is a refreshing change to see new architecture drawn rather than photographed, and his exhibition at the BIAS is neatly put together with the plans and drawings presenting the
