PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Springwell House. Edinburgh (On Tour) Eight weeks of improvisational workshops on the themes of sex, love and jealousy produced this hilarious and poignant show. Theatre de Complicite’s ‘Please, Please, Please’ exposes the isolation and tears of individual members of a family together at Christmas.

The show builds sharply: the light-heartedness of parents bickering in bed over biscuit crumbs gives way to a more serious mood when they ignore their son‘s important announcement in a stunning comic breakfast routine and becomes agony with the young couple

in bed who fail to respond to each other‘s needs.

With its affection and humour, “Please, Please, Please' acts as a release, forcing the audience to recognise and laugh at private tears and weaknesses. The scenes are beautifully interwoven against a background of a bowling snow-storm, resonant music, muttering voices and culminate in a visually poetic scene atterthe storm. Most remarkable of all is the company’s immaculate timing and accuracy of human observation. (Ness Raison).
