PREMIER LEAGUE
0 Celtic v Hamilton Celtic Park. Janefield Street. Glasgow (Buses m, 62. 64). After last Sunday‘s exertions this is. on the face of it. a cakewalk for Celtic — a last chance for Johnston and McClair to claim their places on Wednesday?
0 Falkirk V Ribs Brockville. Falkirk (100 yards from Falkirk Grahamstown station). I‘ve long had this suspicion that with a bit of luck Hibs could be right up there come the end of the season and a couple of canny signings have improved their chances no end — sorry Falkirk.
0 Hearts V Clydehank Tynecastle. Edinburgh (Buses 1.2. 3.4. 33. 34. 35, 44). Hearts have had a shaky start to the season which is undoubtedly a reaction to the disappointment of last. However. a good team does not become bad in a couple of months and I expect them to start their winning ways again soon. Which is unfortunate for Clydehank.
o Motherwell v Rangers Fir Park. Motherwell (Most buses through town centre pass 200 yards from ground). Motherwell‘s treasurer will be smacking his chops this week as the bluenose hordes engulf Fir Park. When all is said and done it is rather sad that other clubs rely on Rangers winning to bring in some money.
0 St Mirren v Aberdeen Love Street. Paisley (Ground a short walk from Gilmour Street station). St Mirren must cringe at the thought of Ferguson, Weir. Stark and McDougaI all coming back to give them a red face. ‘Oy Weh‘ the board cry with one voice. ‘it could have been us‘. All [can say is that Buddies
must be awfully forgiving by nature.

o Airdrie v Partick Thistle Broomfield. Airdrie (short walk from Airdrie train station. every 15 mins from Queen Street).
0 Clyde V Montrose Firhill. Glasgow (Buses 1.8. 21.57. ()0. 61 . 89. 91)).
o Dumbarton v Brechin Boghead. Dumbraton (All trains from Glasgow stop 10 mins from ground). 0 Kilmarnock v DuniermIine Athletic Rugby Park. Kilmarnock (Ground is ten minutes from bus station).
SECOND DIVISION
0 Albion Rovers v Arbroath Cliftonhill.
Coatbridge (On Glasgow— Edinburgh bus route).
0 Ayr United v Berwick Rangers Somerset Park. Ayr (Ground ten minutes from Ayr and Newton-on-Ayr stations).
0 East Stirling v Stranraer Firs Park.
Glasgow Diamonds geta taste ot the real thing on 11 September when they lace the semi-pro Brooklyn Cobras The match is part of the ‘Tri-City
T I“ g. .
International Challenge BowI‘ between 1
the two sides and Streatham Olympians. Tile New York side approached the Olympians with the idea oi the holiday cum short tour and the London side recommended the Diamonds as suitable opposition. It will be the Glasgow team's biggest challenge by tar as the Cobras are comprised ot National League ‘nearIys’ and ex-pros.’ Streatham are no slouches either, being finalists in this season’s Budweiser Bowl.
The New York team will be treated to

Falkirk (Ground ten minutes from Grahamstown station).
0 Meadowbank v Oueen’s park Meadowbank. Edinburgh (Buses 4. 5. 26, 35. 42. 44).

0 Scotland Under 21 v West Germany 5 Under 21 Ibrox. Glasgow. 7.30pm (2 minutes from Ibrox Underground
; station).
Wednesday 10
0 Scotland v Bulgaria Hampden. Glasgow. 8pm. Ground £4. (Special trains leave Central for ground or Buses 5. 12. 14. 19. 22. 26.31.34. 37.
i 39.66,67.89.9()). Scotland‘s first
match in the European
Championship in which our record is
'- nothing short ofdismal — at least the SPA made the right decision in
appointing Andy Roxburgh and I
hope he makes the right decision in
forgetting Souness and Dalglish and concentrating on building a team for the future. Step forward. Pat Nevin! [can‘t help but think that a cheapest ticket price of£4 is a bit steep.
. Saturday 13 PREMIER LEAGUE
o Falkirk v Hamilton Brockville.
: Falkirk (see above).
a civic reception in Glasgow and hometown Mayor Ed Koch, by Langs, who are also providing the trophy lor the mini-tournament. As it this wasn’t enough, both the Diamonds and Olympians are tlying to New York in January for a rematch - a trip both teams are eagerly anticipating tor social as well as sporting reasons. Glasgow Diamonds v Brooklyn Cobras at Nughendon, Glasgow, Thursday 11 Sept. Kick-oil 6.30pm. o Hibs v St Mirren Easter Road. Edinburgh (Buses 4. 15. 42. 44). Probably the most attractive fixture in Central Scotland today.
0 Motherwell v Dundee Fir Park.
Motherwell (see above). One can . only guess at what difference losing l the much improved Bobby Connor
will make to Dundee who lack only consistency to make them a very good team indeed but it will surely not be enough to stop them heading back to Tayside with 2 points.
0 Rangers v Clydehank Ibrox. Glasgow (2 minutes from Ibrox Underground station and Buses 4. 9. 17. 25. 28. 52. 54. 65. 89. 9(1). If Butcher. Souness er al have struck form by now there will surely be a 2().()()()-plus crowd at even this lowly fixture. Clydehank have shown in the past that they are by no means pushovers and Rangers would be foolish indeed to enter this one too casually. Incidentally. were you as astonished as me at how sensible McCoist was when he was on the World Cup Panel‘.’
