Duniermline
0 Goodbye Mr McKenzie Warehouse, Kirkgate. They’ve been around a wee while, and are soon to release a debut 45 in ‘The Rattler’. A good prospect because they don’t forget that a little melody helps the powerful guitars go down.

0 The Cateran Jailhouse, Calton Road. 10.30pm. Brought forward from the 19th is another gig for the boys whose name means The Hooligans in Gaelic. Sixteen songs in 35 mins. Top critics recommend them for solid nourishment. You will not be bored.

0 Primal Scream The Onion Cellar at The Mission, Victoria Street. 10.30pm. More of those Glaswegian guitars we know and love so well. Get them to play ‘Velocity Girl‘ from the NME C86. Stirring stuff indeed. 0 FumitureHoochie Coochie Club, West Tollcross. 9pm. £3.50. Brilliant Mind is the sort of single that enters your head, sits in the corner, and refuses to leave. A few more like that and these lads could be on to something big. They have gigged extensively around London so we should be in for a polished performance. Yes, I did say that.
O Ivor Cutler Assembly Rooms, George Street. 5.45pm. £4.50 (£4). What on earth is an ancient poet who plays the harmonium doing in the rock listings? I don’t know either, but extensive Peel exposure and some of the quirkiest lyrics ever to cross these ears might have something to do with it. You might even find out what a ‘grut’ is. Ivor Cutler is appearing as part of the

0 Jesse Rae Hoochie Coochie Club, West Tollcross. 7.30pm. £3.50. A man in a skirt and sporting a feathered helmet sings funky Scottish ditties while waving along sword. That's showbiz. honey. Worth experiencing, ifonly for the patent ridiculousness of it all.
0 Jools Holland Assembly Rooms. George Street. 11.45am. £4.25 (£3.50). Tube presenter of acid wit and manual dexterity when placed before the ivories. Backed by fellow ex-Squeeze member Gilson Lavis on drums. By the time he comes on he‘ll be pissed, and you‘ll most likely be pissed too. I like the sound ofthat. Part of the Festival Fringe.
