Britain‘s Boys of the Lough (photo) on 24 July. The Commonwealth Arts Festival opening concert is the major showcase of Scotland’s music and will reveal to an international audience a view of our nation's vocal, instrumental and dance traditions usually only dimly glimpsed through the Tartan, Heather and Haggis shows that are trundled out in the tourist season.

The Whistlebinkies are in concert on 25 July and will feature a performance of member Eddie McGuire’s new piece ‘The Pipers Return’ for bagpipes, bombarde, harps and double bass. McGuire is regarded as one of the foremost Scottish composers of modern music. There is a night of Australian music on 26 July and a

Mary Sandeman on 1 August. A Ceilidh with Scottish dance bands and guest Commonwealth performers commences at 9pm on 25 July and will stretch into the small hours and the Easy Club group hosts two ceilidhs on 18 July & 1 August that will fuse the instruments and playing styles of the home and visiting musicians with enjoyable, if unpredictable results. The Farewell Concert ofvisiting performers and Scottish musicians will be held on 2 August.
