Who recorded 16 LPs between 1965 and 1975 and had more album chart entries than any other British group apart from Cream, The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles? The surprising answer is the Incredible String Band, which owed its genesis to Clive Palmer's Incredible Folk Club in Glasgow way back in the 19603. Founder Robin Williamson’s songs, lyricism and myth continue to resonate in the Imagination of a generation. His Odyssey of self discovery has led him since the lSB through table and legend, Celtic history and literature and some years with his American Merry Band to a solo career as a modern bard. ln performance the harp more and more replaces the guitar in an alchemy ol

song, tales, poetry, theatre and music, , and he continues to release a prodigious amount at recorded music and song, spoken word cassettes and books of poems and stories. He composed and played the music for Channel 4’s thirteen part history ol Wales, made a lovely album of Scottish Lowland Harp Music and performed live and televised production of the Mablnogl, among much else.
Robin was jogging around Edinburgh’s New Town recently, about to head overto North Italy for a tour, but he will be back for two evenings in Glasgow's Third Eye (25 and 26 June) — a lew hundred yards up the road from the old Incredible Folk Club.
