(see Princes Street Gardens) this exhibition takes a look at the smaller scale work of the same group of sculptors. Drawings and photographs are also included. It's on the top floor and not well signposted. The EndeavourCompetition Until Sat 31 May. Organised by the Altrusa Club of Edinburgh this exhibition displays art by handicapped children. SNAP CHANGES
I About the only thing standing still at
Scotland’s photography gallery is its
name. Stills, in the middle of the
museums and galleries quarter of the Royal Mile is now under new
management. Rob Powell, a Canadian, has come to Edinburgh via a successful career in journalism to take up the post of director and Gloria Chambers,
herself an active photographer, returns to Scotland to administrate after a stint
in London. Talking about their plans for the future, they come across as two ' very committed people. It’s a strong
team.
For some time now the gallery, whilst having some excellent shows (which always seemed poorly attended), has been slowly slipping off the map. Lack of funds and manpower seem the most likely cause. Rob is determined to rectify this sad state of affairs. ‘l want the gallery to promote the celebration of photography as well as look at serious, critical work,‘ he says. With that end in mind, he is already searching for funds to pay for an education officer who would work to enable visitors, children and adults alike, to take a more active part in gallery exhibitions and photography itself. ‘We hope to add a new element to the exhibitions. The gallery should be more active, have talks and workshops around the shows throughout the year.’No one can argue with that! He believes that Stills’ position as the only photography gallery in the country gives it a
