THUR DAY 22
Glasgow
-. 1"- The contribution of John Coakley and Christy O’Leary is immediately apparent on listening to the Boys of the Lough's first album in the new line-up. ‘Welcoming Paddy Home' has at times an Irish Ceili Band feel, John's guitar neatly beefing up the sound and the occasional piano driving the tunes along. Christy’s pipes blend well with Cathal’s flute, and his vocal talents reveal a long musical apprenticeship (he played for a time in De Danaan) in the London Irish scene.
A retrospective album of the Boys
featuring guitarist Tich Richardson,
5 tragically killed in a road accident in
1984, is being put together by brother Dave who handles the organisation and bookwork as well as playing in the band. They have already completed an exhausting world tour this year and have their usual lull schedule of tours
j stretching ahead, but fiddlerAly Bain is
finding time to perform solo in Glasgow
on 24 May and in Edinburgh on 28 May. : The whole group are in Glasgow on 23 May.
