The trouble with some operas is, let's lace it, that the literary material the composer either chooses to or has to work with just isn't up to the standard at the music. So no matter how great the music might be, we're still left with a ieeling of dissatisfaction when it comes to the drama. Happily, there are operas around which don'tlall into this mould, one at which is opening at the theatre Royal on 16 April.
