With a host at events taking place at Cairngorm and Glenshee, many top Scottish skiers currently competing abroad will be able to keep in practise on home territory. Scottish ski-ing is now well placed on the European map and the Iuture looks even brighter with Jim Gunn bringing on such an excellent youngster team. While Lesley Beck oi Bearsden Ski Club has just become British Alpine Ladies Champion for the third year running and is achieving excellent results Ior Scotland in World Cup racing and FIS circuit, the Tecnica Trophy - the Bearsden Ski Club National Open - takes place at Cairngorm (see listings). It is deliberately held early in the season so
that competitive skiers unable to go to the Alpine Championships have the
. opportunity at picking up seed points at a high quality slalom race at home.
In the past the Club National has attracted large entry numbers and this yearthe organisers are hoping tor a Iield oI70. Lastyear‘s champion, Andrew Steele (Scottish Ski Club) will
be defending histitle and brother Robbie Steele, who is currently ski-ing
very well torthe juniors, will be a serious contender. Also Craig Bonnington (Cairngorm Ski Club) - previous champion - should compete. The race is a 2 Run Slalom and has provisional starting times oiIO.30am and I.30pm. (Janet MacLean)

This free night is organised by the Glasgow Standing (‘onference of Voluntary Youth ()rganisation who particularly aim at motivating Glasgow‘s East End youngsters to participate in all sorts ofeyents. Medals will be awarded to winners and there is a good chance for new school swimming talent to be spotted. All the equipment of a full gala will be used.
