SKATING ACHIEVEMENT

One of three annual competitions held by the SIFSA tor a wide range oi skaters. On 25 Jan (see listings) Ayr will see some top level periormers. Gillian Otterson, who made history by being the lirst Scottish girl to take the British Primary Championships, will be skating in the junior ladies competition. 14-year-old Fiona Ritchie who came third in the British Senior Championships - a great achievement for a Scottish skater - will compete lor the ladies Russell Trophy and Paul Robinson (Blackpool), who took second place in the same championships, will be skating lor the St Andrew’s Men’s Trophy. All the national rules apply and competitors will attempt the figure component which is annually selected lor competition along with a two minute lree skating routine. There is also a longer three and a hall minute programme, more gruelling lor the

participants but the sort of thing that usually gets TV coverage included in

the schedule. Unfortunately this time the cameras will not be there. Pictured

OOTBALL

Saturday 25

SCOTTISH CUP THIRD ROUND

0 Ayr United v Stenhousemuir Somerset Park. 3pm.

Ally MacLeod seems to have taken a poor Ayr team in hand and should be too strong fora team which struggled to get to this round.

0 Airdrie v Parlick Thistle Broomfield. 3pm. I hear Partick 'I‘histle will be in Europe next year. if they can write a song in time.

0 Queen's Park v Dumbarton Hampden. 3pm. Dumbarton should win this one. but I think it‘s the last they‘ll see of this part of the world in this tournament. o Heartsv Rangers 'I‘yneeastie. 3pm. : This is definiter the match ofthe 3 day! Hearts have surprised

everybody but themselves this . season with their performances. ()n I paper. you would have to back them. but Rangers have shown in the past that it is in Cup competitions that they come into theirown. A hard l match. but I'll stick my neck out as I Jimmy Sanderson would say— and : tip the 'gers to win just.

0 Motherwell v Brechin City Fir Park. 3pm. I 0 Clydebank V Falkirk Kilbowic. 3pm. i o Kilmarnockv Stirling Albion Rugby Park. 3pm. Much as I hate to admit

Sunday26

SCOTTISH CUP THIRD ROUND f 0 Hamilton Academicals v Forlar Athletic Douglas Park. 3pm. Greavsie’s faves should advance to

the next round and quite right too! One ofScotland‘s most ambitious clubs deserve it.

o Hibernian v Ounlermline Athletic Easter Road. 3pm. Sometimes I

think that Hibs are not too far away

- from being a rather good team. A home win.

I FINEFARE LEAGUE ' SECOND DIVISION

FINE FARE LEAGUE

PREMIER DIVISION

0 Clydebankv Hearts Kilbowie. 3pm. Sorry. Clydebank. but I can’t see past Hearts on this form. I hope the coach driver doesn‘t go past Ibrox on

the way. or several Hearts players

will want to get off out of force of habit.

o Hibernian v Motherwell Easter

Road. 3pm. ()n the face ofit. a

wasted journey for ‘weli. still. as opposing forwards used to say:

‘where there‘s Rough. there‘s hope.‘ 0 Rangers vaerdeen Ibrox. 3pm. I definitely fancy going to this one. if the gates haven‘t been closed. Like I the A'deen Celtic match. this is often atawdryaffair.with‘commitment' ( just as important as skill. It will be I interesting to see if the Dons‘ recent I poor away form can be overcome

against a Rangers side who will be I
