91......- Cosmopolitan musical visionary and in permanent exile from South Africa, Abdulla Ibrahim, or Dollar Brand as he was known priort01970, will make his home (Ekaya in South African dialect) at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on 30 Jan.
The group Ekaya consist of long term collaborator Carlos Ward on beautiful flute and alto sax, and the superb and complementarytalents of Ricky Ford, tenor; Charles Davis, baritone; Dick Grittin, trombone; Essiet Dkon Essiet, bass and Don Mumford. drurns.
Facets of Monk or Mingus‘s arrangements, atonal in the Euro-American jazz stream are occulted by the resounding bass and
