Alongside ‘legend’, ‘genius’ and ‘hilarious’, the phrase ‘bigger and better’ might be somewhat overused these days, but in Hidden Door’s case, it’s perfectly apt given that the festival has incrementally upped its game over the years. Firmly located now in Leith, the 2018 cultural bonanza will feature the likes of Young Fathers, Nadine Shah, C Duncan, Annie Lord, Flint & Pitch and Janis Claxton, while big-screen delights include Blade and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. See feature, page 36. Leith Theatre and State Cinema, Edinburgh, Fri 25 May–Sun 3 Jun.

This year exploring the theme of Beginnings, Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival has now moved from autumn into the spring, and timed to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.
