✽ Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra The Usher Hall’s
International Series goes from strength to strength. Bringing music of their homeland, the Moscow Philharmonic show off their rich sound in Rachmaninov’s 3rd Symphony. Following his recent retirement from performance, Julian Lloyd Webber is replaced by Natalie Clein (pictured) as soloist in Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Sun 25 May.
✽ Scottish Opera: Madama Butterfly Revival of
Sir David McVicar’s classic production from 2000 is a powerful telling of Puccini’s much adored tale of love, betrayal and heartbreak. With a cast including a few rising stars, Korean soprano Hye-Youn Lee in the title role is but one name to look out for. ✽ London Symphony Orchestra It’s Beethoven, Beethoven and more Beethoven from the LSO with virtuoso Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos taking the dual role of conductor and soloist. For the Triple Concerto, he’s joined by Tim Hugh on cello and pianist Enrico Pace. Eroica Symphony and Prometheus Overture complete the bill. Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Wed 4 Jun.
