DEEP HOUSE TEN WALLS Sub Club, Glasgow, Sat 29 Mar

Last year’s big electronic music mystery hasn’t actually been much of a mystery at all for some time now. It all started last May with the release, on hugely respected Berlin house label Innervisions, of Gotham a glorious slice of deep house from a mysterious producer known only as Ten Walls. Timed to be the label’s big Ibiza hit, it duly obliged, its intoxicating horn motif becoming familiar to just about anyone who spent any time dancing to quality house music in summer 2013. As the season wore on, speculation as to Ten Walls’ identity

gradually zeroed in on one name: that of Lithuanian deep house maestro Mario Basanov. By the November release of Requiem, his equally lauded second EP, the cat was firmly out of the bag. The Vilnius-born producer had already built a stellar reputation for himself under his own name, producing a slew of standout EPs on various labels and an album, Journey, on the Needwant imprint, but the quality of his Ten Walls material combined with that canny, get-them-talking early anonymity, has swiftly propelled him to another level.

Despite having announced a series of European live shows under the Ten Walls name, at time of writing Basanov still hasn’t formally announced his dual identity. However, with recent DJ sets often closing with two Ten Walls tracks played back-to-back, it’s fair to assume that this tour is intended to be his official coming-out ceremony.

Online snippets of forthcoming track Walking With Elephants reveal him continuing to mine the same rich seam of horn-led deep house that characterised the first two Ten Walls EPs; expect a parping, propulsive treat at what is proving to be one of the most keenly awaited Subculture nights of the year so far.
