issue has a feminist theme running through it, coinciding nicely with International Women’s Day (see page 32) on 8 March. To start, the wonderful Bridget Christie makes an appearance at Glasgow’s annual comedy festival. She’s had a busy few months since winning the Foster’s Comedy Award at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe with her timely critique of everyday sexism, A Bic For Her. We chat to the comedian about her unexpected rise on page 16.
Elsewhere, Beyonce visits The Hydro for two nights as part of her Mrs Carter Show tour – Malcolm Jack considers the star’s sometimes contradictory moral stance on page 66. At the Glasgow Women’s Library they launch a new publication called 21 Revolutions, showcasing an impressive range of work from local female writers and artists (see pages 11 and 39). And at The Arches, experimental performance festival Behaviour kicks off with more than one show tackling gender issues (look out for Bryony Kimmings’ Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model). With that little lot in mind it won’t just be on the 8 March that you’ll be celebrating
top work by women this month.

UNDER THE SKIN The closing film at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival is one we’ve had our eye on for a while. An adaptation of Michel Faber’s cult sci-fi hitchhiking thriller, it started filming in 2011, with glimpses of Scarlett Johansson in the Highlands fuelling the hype. Now the film has finally arrived, and it’s turned out to be a uniquely unsettling beast. Check out our interview with director Jonathan Glazer on page 12, or skip straight to our five-star review on page 55. 22
GLASGOW COMEDY FESTIVAL ‘Women aren’t funny?’ Pah. Have a gander at the GCF’s incredibly strong line-up of female comedians this year, including Bridget Christie, Miranda Hart, Fern Brady and Hailey Boyle. CULTURE 2014 With almost 200 individual projects, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games’ arts programme is an astounding showcase of Scottish contemporary culture. We select some highlights.
