HOW DID YOU GET THAT JOB?
Name Shona Rattray Job title Creative Producer
Company Birds of Paradise Theatre
When did you start your job? In August 2012, my job title changed from company manager to creative producer to reflect the role I played within the company. I started working as company manager in 2006.
So what does your job actually involve? My job covers a broad range of activities from artistic and creative partnerships to company and financial management. I enjoy the artistic collaborations that my job brings, the first day of rehearsals, the process of creating theatre. In that moment I see all the aspects of my job merging. Best / Worst Aspects? Best aspect is the variety of artists I get to work with. The worst part is there are so many different aspects to my job that sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming.
Looking back, what advice would you give to a young Shona Rattray at the start of her career? I made a decision to work in touring theatre when I graduated from RSAMD, most of my peers worked in Rep. I think I would remind a young Shona to trust in herself, to keep evolving and keep asking the right questions.
And finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in 2014? Birds of Paradise and Random Accomplice’s co-production Wendy Hoose by Johnny McKnight. Directed by Robert Softley Gale and Johnny McKnight.
■ Wendy Hoose tours Scotland Fri 7–Sat 29 Mar, full details at www.birdsofpardisetheatre.co.uk
