I create a lot of work for younger audiences – maybe this is the reason I’m so excited to see Hanif Kureshi and Roger Michell’s latest cinematic collaboration, Le Week- end. Starring the brilliant Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan, this tale of a pensioner-couple embarking on teenage-like shenanigans while on a mini-break in Paris looks not only viciously entertaining but hugely moving too, with some crackling dialogue, fabulous performances (how could it not be with a cast that also includes Jeff Goldblum?) and a beautiful Parisian backdrop. This third collaboration between the writer and director continues their exploration of older characters – their loves, foibles and transgressions – and it looks to be daring, emotionally charged and filled with heart- aching humour. Youthful rebellion in an older person’s guise – what’s not to love? Le Week-End is out now on general release. Visible Fictions’ Friends Electric is currently touring around the country – it calls in at Edinburgh Festival Theatre on Sat 19 Oct and at National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, on Sat 26 & Sun 27 Oct.
