MODA BLACK THE BABY-FACED HOUSE PRODUCERS COME OF AGE

T o achieve international levels of fame as a DJ or a producer when you look as young as that (that photo, right up there) isn’t such a big deal, but when you’re Jaymo and Andy George, it’s just the tip of a weighty iceberg that basically involves being the sound, voice and helping hand of a generation of young producers. Starting out in their native Lincoln in 2006, the duo began Moda as a low-key but well received party in basement bars around their home town, before being talent-spotted by BBC Radio 1’s Kissy Sell-Out during the BBC Introducing tour of 2008.

Over the next few months they would be further championed by Annie Mac, invited to become the youngest DJs ever to record a career-breaking Essential Mix for Radio 1 and eventually taken into the fold as semi- regular presenters on the station’s In New

DJs We Trust strand. At the same time as their on-air roles increased, their individual and joint careers as producers and remixers have taken off, their DJ careers have landed them in We Love . . . Space Ibiza and Fabric London, and their own labels Moda Music (indie and electronic pop) and Moda Black (cross-genre underground club sounds) are going from strength to strength. This mob-handed return to the Arches will demonstrate just how well Moda Black is doing, with sets from friends and labelmates including Poland’s Catz N’ Dogz, the lush house groove of Italy’s Marco Faraone, Glasgow’s own Mia Dora, Leeds Darius Syrossian and Shadow Child alongside Jaymo and Andy themselves.
